Egypt and a host of other Islamic nations denounced on Thursday in the strongest terms approval by the Israeli Knesset (parliament) of two draft laws opening the door for imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and illegal settlements in it.
In a joint statement with a wide range of other states, including Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Türkiye, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry described the Israeli bills as a “blatant violation” of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334 which condemns all Israeli measures to alterthe demographic composition, character, and status of the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem.
The same bills, the statement said, also violate the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.
It said these resolutions and opinion reaffirm that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory.
The countries issuing the statement also welcomed the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice of 22 October 2025 on Israel’s obligations towards the occupied Palestinian territories, where the Court reaffirmed Israel’s obligation under international humanitarian law to ensure that the population of the occupied territories, including Gaza, has essential supplies for its daily life.
The same opinion commits Israel to facilitating by all means at its disposal relief schemes on behalf of the population, including through the United Nations and its entities, particularly the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, the states issuing the statement said.
The Court confirmed Israel’s obligation to respect the prohibition on the use of starvation, they added.
They cited to the Court’s condemnation of Israel’s blockage of aid into the Gaza Strip and reaffirmed the prohibition of mass forcible transfer and deportation.
The same states added that the Court further reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and independent statehood.
