Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom met on Wednesday Regional Manager at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Cairo Regional Hub, Noureddine Mabrouk, and his accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed future frameworks for co-operation between Egypt and the IsDB.
Rostom praised the longstanding partnership with the Bank and its active role in supporting Egypt’s economic and social development priorities. He underscored the importance of the shared vision between both sides, aimed at promoting sustainable growth and advancing institutional modernisation in a way that supports comprehensive development and improves citizens’ quality of life.
The minister expressed Egypt’s aspiration to build on the successes achieved through joint co-operation with the IsDB and move toward broader horizons of effective partnership aligned with national development priorities.
Rostom stressed that international financial institutions must take more flexible policies to help countries adapt to changing conditions, amid accelerating global challenges and mounting pressures on resources and supply chains.
Such policies, he said, are essential to ensuring market stability, securing the availability of basic needs, and maintaining a fair competitive environment that curbs harmful practices while supporting sustainable growth.
For his part, Mabrouk said the current phase requires greater flexibility in responding to rapidly evolving economic developments, in order to boost countries’ resilience, preserve market stability, and ensure the continued provision of essential needs.
During the meeting, the Bank’s delegation reviewed key activities undertaken by the IsDB and its affiliated institutions, including development financing, technical assistance, and capacity-building efforts, as well as initiatives designed to promote investment across multiple sectors.
The two sides also discussed arrangements for signing the annual programme with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, within the framework of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the institution. The programme reflects continued efforts to support priority sectors and advance the country’s objectives in food security, energy, trade development, and private-sector empowerment.
