CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar discussed with Iraqi Minister of Health Hani al Aqabi means of boosting co-operation and exchanging expertise between the two countries in the health sector.
This came during a meeting held on Friday on the fringe of the 56th regular session of the Arab health ministers, currently in session at the headquarters of the Arab League’s Secretariat-General.
The two sides discussed activating a memorandum of understanding signed in 2020 that included cooperation in the fields of pharmaceutical manufacturing and receiving critically-ill patients for treatment in both countries’ hospitals, in addition to cooperation in training doctors, said Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi health minister asserted his country’s keenness to benefit from the Egyptian expertise in implementing the presidential initiative to eliminate Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and benefiting from the Egyptian experiences in manufacturing Hepatitis C drugs.
The meeting also touched on ways of benefiting from Egypt’s experiment in implementing the new Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS) in Iraq, in addition to bilateral cooperation in promoting scientific research.
