CAIRO – Egyptian Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawi said on Friday that the State’s total investments in North and South Sinai governorates exceeded EGP 650 EGP over the past seven years, a matter which shows the strong political will to construct Sinai and improve its locals’ life.
Sharawi’s remarks came during a celebration marking the 33rd anniversary of raising the Egyptian flag over Taba, in the presence of Sports and Youth Minister Ashraf Sobhy, Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, and Mufti Shawqi Allam, the Local Development Ministry said in a statement.
Sharawi underlined the State’s efforts to develop South Sinai governorate in the tourism, transport, and agricultural sectors, including the “Greatest Transfiguration” project in Saint Catherine, the opening of Sharm El-Sheikh Museum and increasing the area of arable lands to 31,000 feddans.
The minister pointed out that South Sinai governorate joined the comprehensive health insurance system, with total investments amounting to EGP 3.2 billion.
He further noted that EGP 103 million had been allocated to South Sinai governorate as part of investments to develop the solid waster management system.
The governorate intends to replace the public lighting to be powered by solar energy, as well as and buses and microbuses to be powered by natural gas and electricity, he added.
