Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati held a series of phone calls on Tuesday with Arab and European counterparts on the regional developments, particularly the course of US–Iran negotiations.
Minister Abdel-Aati spoke with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
The Egyptian top diplomat briefed his counterparts on Egypt’s intensive diplomatic efforts in recent weeks, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on its website.
The foreign ministers exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in the region and stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to support the US-Iran negotiation track and the ongoing attempts to reach a political settlement away from the threat of war.
They agreed on the need to maintain the diplomatic track and continue efforts to reach understandings among the concerned parties, in a way that would help consolidate a ceasefire, end the ongoing conflicts and reduce regional tensions.
For their part, the foreign ministers commended Egypt’s constructive role, in coordination with regional and international partners, in de-escalating tensions. They also agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation, emphasising that diplomatic solutions remain the best option to support security and stability in the region and beyond.
