Justice Minister Mahmoud Helmy El-Sherif met on Monday the Indian Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy at the Ministry of Justice headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting was attended by senior ministry officials and members of the Indian delegation.
The minister welcomed the ambassador and praised the strong ties between Egypt and India, stressing the importance of building on this shared history to open new horizons that support judicial and legislative systems in both countries.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in legal and judicial fields, developing justice systems, capacity building, and exchanging best practices. The two sides also reviewed mechanisms for implementing bilateral judicial agreements covering mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition, and the transfer of convicted persons.
Minister El-Sherif highlighted Egypt’s firm commitment to the rule of law and the ongoing modernization of the judicial system under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, particularly in digital transformation and alternative dispute resolution.
Ambassador Reddy expressed his appreciation for the meeting and praised Egypt’s judicial and legislative progress. He confirmed India’s interest in advancing legal cooperation and discussed the possibility of a new bilateral agreement on civil and commercial judicial cooperation to serve the common interests of both nations.
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and joint work to modernize legislative and institutional frameworks, reflecting the depth of the Egypt-India strategic partnership, advancing judicial cooperation, and supporting digital justice transformation.
