CAIRO – Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir and Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, met here Thursday to discuss a technical-support agreement in the railway sector.
Under the deal, sealed between the Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) and Transmashholding, the Russian-Hungarian company should supply Egypt with 1,300 passenger coaches. Hungary should provide 670 coaches of all 1,300 agreed with the ERA.
Wazir stressed the importance of what he called “positive” partnership and cooperation with Budapest and Hungarian firms.
This, he said, reflects strong and close relations between the political leadership here and in Hungary.
The minister made it clear that, so far, Egypt has received 620 coaches from Transmashholding as part of the deal, which, he believes, is the biggest in the history of the ERA.
It has sure contributed to achieving a quantum leap, where the level of railway services is concerned, Wazir noted.
Szijjártó, for his part, said it is the biggest transport industry project in Hungary.
He thanked Wazir for his continued support for joint co-operation in the field of transport.
Budapest is looking forward to boosting co-operation with Cairo and to implementing a long-term cooperation program between the two sides, Szijjártó expressed.
The meeting also took up river transport, with Wazir underlining big attention paid by his Ministry to upgrade the green transport system, including the sustainable, environment-friendly river transport sector.
The transport minister added that the political leadership is keen on strengthening the transport industry in Egypt through cooperation with giant international companies specialized in this field.
Egypt welcomes future cooperation with Hungary in all transport projects, Wazir noted.
