Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Randa El-Menshawy, took part in the opening session of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The session was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and senior officials, ministers, and representatives of international and regional organisations.
During the session, El-Menshawy said Egypt, under leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, placed strong focus on urban development and improving living conditions.
The country has realised major progress in recent years through the construction of new cities, infrastructure projects, and housing developments aimed at improving quality of life and supporting balanced development across the country, she added.
Egypt’s participation in the forum reflects its commitment to strengthening international co-operation and exchanging expertise in sustainable urban development, El-Menshawy noted.
Egypt will present its experience in implementing national projects, including new and smart cities, the redevelopment of unsafe areas, and efforts to provide suitable housing for different segments of society, El-Menshawy said.
She described the forum as an important global platform for discussing urban challenges and exploring ways to achieve sustainable development goals and implement the New Urban Agenda through stronger international partnerships and the exchange of successful experiences in urban planning and city management.
