CAIRO – Egyptian Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker discussed in a meeting with CEO of the Green Hydrogen Organization Jonas Moberg cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and green hydrogen, especially as Egypt is set to host the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh in November.

During the meeting, Shaker said his ministry seeks to expand renewable energy projects, with a view to preserving the environment.

He added that the ministry targets increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the electric energy mix to reach 42% by 2035.

Shaker noted his ministry also works on diversifying the sources of electric energy production by benefiting from Egypt’s natural wealth, especially new and renewable energy sources.

The electricity minister stated that some 15 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed with a number of global companies to execute pilot projects on the production of green hydrogen in Egypt.

On his part, CEO of the Green Hydrogen Organization lauded the great expertise and potential enjoyed by the Egyptian electricity and renewable energy sector

Moberg shed light on the establishment of the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance, which aims to step up regional cooperation and accelerate the implementation of green hydrogen projects in all African countries.

CEO of the Green Hydrogen Organization stressed his keenness to foster cooperation with Egypt in various areas, especially with regard to increasing reliance on clean energy sources.

The Global Green Hydrogen Organization is willing to provide all forms of support to Egypt in terms of hosting COP27, Moberg said.
