New hospital to be established in Alexandria, serving millions
Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held talks with Pope Theodore II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, on plans to establish a new hospital in Alexandria aimed at enhancing healthcare services for millions of residents in the Mediterranean governorate.
During the meeting on Saturday, the minister reviewed avenues of co-operation for the construction of a hospital adjacent to the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Abdel Ghaffar underscored the deep-rooted historical and civilisational ties between Egypt and Greece, describing bilateral relations as a model of comprehensive strategic partnership. He also instructed ministry officials to provide full support for the project, which is expected to serve around 5.6 million people in Alexandria.

For his part, Pope Theodore II praised the efforts of Egypt’s Ministry of Health in advancing healthcare sector, stressing that the planned hospital reflects the church’s humanitarian and social mission to serve all citizens without discrimination.
