Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, has met with the German Ambassador to Egypt, Jürgen Schulz, to discuss strengthening industrial co-operation across several sectors of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Hashem highlighted the robust relations between Egypt and Germany, stressing their importance in driving economic co-operation and unlocking new opportunities that benefit both nations.
He noted that German companies possess extensive expertise in the pharmaceutical sector as well as engineering industries, particularly machinery, automobiles, and automotive components. As these sectors are among Egypt’s seven priority industries, the state aims to leverage German expertise to facilitate technology transfer and localisation.
Hashem also called for further encouragement of German businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to invest in Egypt and take advantage of available incentives. These include Egypt’s extensive trade agreements, a skilled workforce, investment incentives, and strategic ministry initiatives such as the “Sun of Industry” programme, which promotes solar energy in manufacturing.
Furthermore, he proposed organising a trade mission in co-operation with the German Embassy in Cairo and the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This would allow prospective German investors to explore available opportunities on the ground.
For his part, Ambassador Schulz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Egypt, particularly in manufacturing and technology transfer. He noted the strong existing presence of German firms across various Egyptian sectors, adding that the automotive industry remains a flagship sector for Germany, with numerous companies already operating successfully in the country.
