Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced that the country has been listed— for the first time—among nations authorized to export aquaculture products to the EU, following full compliance with EU technical requirements.
The approval comes after Egypt established an integrated monitoring system to track veterinary drug residues, ensuring full alignment with relevant European standards.
The decision covers exports of finfish and their products, as well as crustaceans, marking a significant step toward expanding Egyptian access to European markets.
It is expected to boost the competitiveness of the aquaculture sector, one of the country’s most promising economic industries.
The achievement reflects effective coordination among national authorities, led by the NFSA, in cooperation with international partners.
Egypt submitted a comprehensive package of technical evidence demonstrating its adherence to EU-approved quality control and food safety systems.
The decision is scheduled for formal adoption in the 3rd quarter of 2026 and will enter into force 20 days after official approval.
Meanwhile, the NFSA continues to finalize technical and regulatory procedures domestically, including the inspection and approval of facilities, implementation of traceability systems, and strengthening laboratory testing frameworks.
Preparations are also underway for composite products—foods containing multiple ingredients, including dairy or animal-origin components—pending approval of related amendments.
