Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar met on Tuesday French Ambassador to Egypt Éric Chevallier and his accompanying delegation to agree on a joint plan to support Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian and relief efforts for the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The meeting also discussed co-operation on a project to rebuild the health sector in the Strip, coinciding with the reopening of the Rafah border crossing.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the minister expressed appreciation for France’s swift support for Egypt’s humanitarian stance during the recent violence in Palestine. He praised France as one of the first nations to stand by Egypt in its relief efforts for Gaza.
The two sides exchanged ideas and proposals on the rapid delivery of medical and therapeutic aid to Gaza and the assessment of urgent Palestinian health needs.
Minister Abdel-Ghaffar affirmed that Egypt’s health sector is fully prepared to co-operate with France in providing all necessary resources and support to save lives and ensure the success of the health sector reconstruction project in Gaza.
They also agreed to expand the establishment of field hospitals in the Egyptian city of Rafah to provide healthcare and treatment services to large numbers of patients and the injured.
The two sides also agreed to enhance ambulance services by deploying fully equipped vehicles with the latest medical technologies.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the two sides further agreed to ensure the continuous provision of essential medical supplies, including all blood types, medicines, and highly skilled medical teams.
Both Egypt and France reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the ongoing relief and humanitarian efforts for the Palestinian people.
For his part, Ambassador Éric Chevallier emphasised that France’s political leadership remains committed to delivering humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.
He added that French delegations would continue to visit Egypt to monitor conditions in the Strip and work with their Egyptian counterparts on preparing reports on the progress of aid delivery and recovery efforts.
The French ambassador expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s humanitarian role, adding that France looks forward to strengthening co-operation with Egypt in alleviating the suffering of Palestinians and rebuilding Gaza’s health infrastructure.
