Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said that green transformation and industrial decarbonisation have become an economic and strategic necessity to strengthen the global competitiveness of Egyptian products, rather than merely an environmental objective.
Speaking during a forum organised by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Egypt on Tuesday, Hashem said the ministry’s updated industrial strategy prioritises reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency and optimising resource use.
He highlighted the launch of the industry solar initiative, which aims to install up to 1,000 megawatts of solar power capacity for factories over the next two years, while expanding renewable energy use and promoting energy service companies to improve industrial efficiency.
The minister also stressed Egypt’s keenness to localise German technologies in renewable energy and green hydrogen, expanding industrial partnerships and supporting innovation, as the state targets increasing merchandise exports from $48 billion in 2025 to $100 billion by 2030.
The meeting is meant to welcome a German trade delegation specialising in sustainable decarbonisation technologies.
