Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelaziz Konsowa, highlighted the depth of Egypt-UK relations, describing them as a long-standing strategic partnership across development sectors, particularly in higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
He pointed to the expansion of British university branches in Egypt, joint and dual degree programmes, and growing academic and student exchanges as key indicators of successful co-operation.
This came during the minister’s meeting on Tuesday with UK Ambassador to Egypt Mark Bryson-Richardson and Director of the British Council in Egypt Mark Howard, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation in higher education and scientific research.
The minister said Egypt is implementing an ambitious strategy to internationalise higher education, aiming to position the country as a regional hub for educational services in the Middle East and Africa.
He added that efforts include expanding Egyptian university branches across Africa and enhancing global partnerships to boost competitiveness.
Konsowa also outlined plans to restructure academic programmes to better align with labour market needs, alongside expanding technology valleys within universities to link research outputs with industrial applications.
The UK ambassador, for his part, described Egypt as a key partner in international education, noting its significant role in transnational British education.
