Egypt voiced deep condolences to friendly South Korea over the victims of Jeju Air plane that crashed while landing at Muan International Airport yesterday, leaving dozens dead and wounded.
Egypt expressed full solidarity with the South Korean government and people over this tragic incident, wishing speedy recovery to the injured, a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
At least 177 people were killed in the plane crash. Two survivors were pulled from the debris and taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Transport Ministry said that its investigation unit secured the cockpit voice recorder from a crashed passenger jet that has killed at least 167 people onboard, according to The BBC.
An official with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a televised press briefing that the retrieval of both flight data and voice recorders was completed to look into the exact cause of the accident.
The fire authorities estimated that the accident may have been caused by bird strike that led to landing gear failure.
