Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has expanded secure digital access to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) by integrating the museum’s official website into the mobile applications of Egypt’s four telecom operators, providing millions of users with a trusted platform to book visits online.
Under the initiative, the museum’s official website (www.gem.eg) is now accessible through the applications of Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, e& Egypt and Telecom Egypt’s WE, enabling visitors to access official information and book tickets through verified digital channels.
The move forms part of the ministry’s broader digital transformation strategy to enhance the visitor experience, strengthen cybersecurity and protect the public from fraudulent websites and fake links that exploit the museum’s name to steal personal data or carry out online scams.
The ministry also announced that it is exploring the introduction of ticket payments through the mobile operators’ e-wallets, alongside the existing bank card payment system, to offer visitors more convenient and flexible digital payment options.
Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy said the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to boosting co-operation between public institutions and the private sector to deliver secure and reliable digital services. He added that expanding access to the museum’s official website through the digital platforms of Egypt’s mobile operators would make it easier for visitors to use trusted booking channels while reinforcing confidence in the ministry’s online services.
For his part, Ahmed Ghoneim, GEM Chief Executive Officer, said the initiative forms part of the museum’s strategy to build a fully integrated digital ecosystem that places visitor security and ease of access at the heart of its services. He added that making the museum’s official website available through the telecom operators’ applications provides visitors with an additional trusted channel for booking visits and accessing official information.
