Egypt exerts efforts to implement green practices: Mashat 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Egypt began vigorous efforts to implement green practices and effectively contribute to climate action efforts, affirmed International Co-operation Minister and Governor of Egypt at the World Bank Group (WBG) Rania al Mashat.

It is necessary to look into collective solutions to the several interlocking crises facing the world, added the minister during her participation in the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four on International Monetary Affairs and Development.

The meeting was attended also by Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, President of the World Bank Group David Malpass, and members of G-24 from African, Asia, and Latin America.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Egyptian government, Mashat said the global economy is witnessing the repercussions successive crises including the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian War, disruptions in supply chains, and increased food and energy prices worldwide.

The minister also indicated that the war in Europe and the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic pose major challenges to development efforts.

The international community has to find tangible solutions to enable the various countries to embark on their development efforts, she further said.

Although its quota of carbon dioxide emissions does not exceed 0.61 per cent of global production, Egypt is exerting utmost efforts to reduce its emissions and creating sustainable green infrastructure, added the minister.
