CAIRO — Egyptian Ambassador to the European Union Badr Abdel Aati discussed on Sunday with the director of the European Commission for International Partnerships Taneli LAHTI means to put into force the outcome of African Union-European Union summit held in Brussels last month.
A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on its Facebook account said the meeting comes within the framework of following up the outcome of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Brussels to take part in the summit which was held on February 17-18 and tackled efforts to boost investments, manufacture vaccines and promote trade exchange.
The summit also discussed linkage in the fields of infrastructure projects, European-African cooperation in the green and digital transformation in a way that contributes to deepening existing cooperation between the two sides and achieving sustainable development.
The foreign ministry statement said the meeting between Abdel Aati and the European official reaffirmed the importance of boosting Europe’s relations with Egypt as a strategic partner.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed preparations for the COP27 summit due to be held in Sharm El Sheikh late this year.
They also discussed means to boost cooperation between Egypt and the EU in many fields topped by the energy sector as Egypt is considered a center for producing and distributing energy and liquified gas to achieve the interests of the two sides.
The Egyptian diplomat also discussed with the Taneli LAHTI director the Ukrainian crisis and the conditions of refugees stranded on the European country’s borders. (MENA)
