Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reassured the public about the well-being of the Egyptian community in Venezuela, stating that they are safe and have not faced any dangers despite the ongoing crisis following US military strikes and the reported capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Under the directives of Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, the Consular Sector of the ministry is maintaining round-the-clock coordination with the Egyptian Embassy in Caracas to monitor the situation of Egyptian nationals in Venezuela.
Ambassador Haddad el-Gohary, Assistant Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, confirmed that the consular team is in constant contact with the embassy. He emphasised that the Egyptian community in Venezuela remains unharmed and unaffected by risks stemming from the recent events.
The embassy in Caracas has been instructed to directly communicate with members of the Egyptian community, advising them to exercise caution, comply with local laws and procedures, and contact the embassy’s hotline immediately in case of any emergencies.
Ambassador el-Gohary added that ongoing communication with the embassy will continue to evaluate and implement any necessary measures to ensure the security of Egyptian citizens in Venezuela.
The statement comes as Venezuela faces significant turmoil after US forces conducted airstrikes on military targets in Caracas and other regions early on Saturday, leading to the capture of President Maduro and his wife. US President Donald Trump has announced that American forces will temporarily administer the country pending a transition.
