President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a phone call on Wednesday with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.
Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El Shennawy stated that President Sisi expressed Egypt’s unequivocal rejection of the recent Iranian missile attack targeting Qatar.
The President affirmed Egypt’s condemnation of any actions that violate the sovereignty of states—particularly those of fellow Arab and Islamic nations.
President El Sisi also welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, emphasising the importance of upholding and consolidating the agreement in light of the recent regional escalation, which had brought the area to the brink of widespread chaos and violence.
Ambassador El Shennawy added that the call also included a review of Egypt’s intensive efforts and communications over the past few days with all concerned parties—foremost among them the US—to contain the escalation and restore calm and stability to the region.
He affirmed that Egypt remains committed to continuing its efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement.
The spokesman further noted that the two presidents agreed that the current phase—marked by complexity and sensitivity—requires advancing comprehensive political solutions and adopting approaches that take into account the various dimensions of regional security.
They also underscored the importance of resuming negotiations between Washington and Tehran over the nuclear programme, stressing the need to work toward establishing a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction.
The Iranian president, for his part, expressed his appreciation to President El Sisi, commending Egypt’s wise and constructive positions in support of regional stability and its efforts to spare all sides further bloodshed.
