Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sweilam, met with Marie Nyangi Ndambi, Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development, and Climate Economy of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during the official visit of the Congolese President to Cairo.
Sweilam highlighted the growing ties between Egypt and DR Congo, stressing the importance of joint African cooperation, particularly among Nile Basin countries. He pointed to successful projects such as the Rainfall and Climate Prediction Center in Congo, which supports early warning systems against extreme weather, and capacity-building programs for Congolese specialists.
The two ministers reviewed progress on solar-powered groundwater drinking stations in Kinshasa, with 11 of 12 stations already completed, and discussed modern irrigation projects aimed at improving water efficiency and agricultural development.
Talks also covered future cooperation in priority development projects, with Egypt reaffirming its readiness to support Congo’s efforts in sustainable growth. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining inclusive institutional frameworks for Nile Basin states to build trust, stability, and regional cooperation.
Minister Ndambi expressed Congo’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Egypt and building on shared achievements to advance sustainable development across Africa.
