Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone call with his Djiboutian counterpart Abdoulkader Houssein Omar on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and developments in the Horn of Africa, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Foreign Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the “depth of Egyptian‑Djiboutian relations” and noted positive momentum in ties, according to the statement.
He said both countries were committed to expanding cooperation, particularly in economic, trade and investment fields.
Abdel-Aati called for increasing trade volumes and supporting mutual investments, highlighting opportunities for Egyptian companies in Djibouti in infrastructure, logistics, energy, agriculture and industry. He emphasised the need to move forward with joint projects in line with Egypt’s interest in strengthening commercial ties.
On regional issues, Abdel-Aati underscored the importance of respecting the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states in the Horn of Africa. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection and condemnation of Israel’s recognition of the self‑declared “Somaliland,” voicing Cairo’s full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia and its territorial integrity.
He warned against unilateral measures that could undermine Somali sovereignty or stability, describing them as violations of international law and threats to the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. The minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Somalia’s legitimate state institutions.
The two ministers exchanged views on broader developments in the Horn of Africa and agreed on the importance of continued coordination between Cairo and Djibouti to address regional challenges and promote peace, security and stability. They also noted the strong link between Red Sea security and stability in the Horn of Africa, the ministry added.
