Egypt’s Ambassador to Ghana, Wael Fathi, attended on Wednesday the official handover of a shipment of Egyptian-provided medical aid designated for the treatment of Hepatitis C, delivered to the Ghanaian Ministry of Health.
The handover ceremony was conducted in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Health, a member of the Ghanaian Parliament, representatives of national medical institutions, the World Health Organisation, and members of the local media.
During the event, Ambassador Fathi highlighted the landmark public health initiative led by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to combat Hepatitis C, emphasising Egypt’s commitment to supporting fellow African nations in strengthening their healthcare systems.
He underscored Egypt’s global recognition as the first country to successfully eliminate the virus, as certified by the WHO, and reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise and resources.
The ambassador further noted the steady advancement of bilateral relations between Egypt and Ghana across multiple sectors, driven by a shared political will to deepen co-operation and build upon longstanding historical ties.
For her part, the Ghanaian deputy minister of health expressed sincere appreciation for Egypt’s continued support, particularly in addressing the spread of Hepatitis C within Ghana.
She highlighted that this shipment constitutes the third consecutive batch of medical assistance provided by Egypt, reflecting its sustained commitment to supporting African partners.
She also commended the broader framework of health co-operation programmes aimed at enhancing national healthcare capabilities, noting the high regard in which such efforts are held by both the leadership and people of Ghana.
