On the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show “EGYPES 2026,” Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi and Cyprus’s Minister of Energy Michael Damianou witnessed on Monday the signing of a major agreement to accelerate development of the Cypriot “Aphrodite” gas field and link it to Egypt’s infrastructure.
The initial signing of the Host Government Agreement took place between Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Chevron. It was signed by Mohamed El-Bagouri, head of the ministry’s legal affairs, and Javier Larrosa, Chevron’s head of core assets and emerging markets.
The deal sets a governmental framework for developing the Aphrodite field in Block 12 of Cypriot waters. Gas will be transported to Egypt via a 280-kilometer subsea pipeline, connecting to the national gas grid in Port Said.
