Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to discuss the latest regional developments.

According to the Egyptian Presidency’s spokesperson, President El‑Sisi stressed the importance of containing the current escalation in the region. He reaffirmed Egypt’s long-standing position that crises must be resolved through peaceful means in order to spare the peoples of the region further tension and instability.

The president also underscored Egypt’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, expressing full solidarity with Arab countries and rejecting any attacks against them. He further warned of the negative economic consequences of continued escalation, noting Egypt’s ongoing intensive contacts with all parties to calm the situation.

The spokesperson added that President Christodoulides praised Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and emphasized Cyprus’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with Cairo. Both leaders highlighted the need to uphold the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and to move forward with its second phase, including the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and the start of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The call also touched on ways to strengthen the strong bilateral relationship between Egypt and Cyprus, as well as broader Egypt–EU relations, particularly as Cyprus currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. The two leaders discussed cooperation in energy, trade, and investment, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing the partnership between their countries.
