Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty, received a phone call today from his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos, as part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments of mutual concern.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said Minister Abdel Aaty praised the close ties between Egypt and Cyprus, stressing Cairo’s keenness to maintain coordination at all levels—particularly as Cyprus prepares to assume the presidency of the EU Council in early 2026.

He also stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the Egypt–EU Summit held in Brussels on October 22.

The minister highlighted the need to intensify joint efforts to activate and implement existing memorandums of understanding and agreements.

He reiterated the importance of co-operation in the energy sector, including ongoing coordination to link Cypriot gas fields to Egypt.

Minister Abdel Aaty called for continued efforts to boost economic and investment co-operation and expand bilateral trade.

He also pointed to promising opportunities in tourism and stressed the importance of swiftly implementing the MoU on employing Egyptian workers in Cyprus.

The two ministers also exchanged views on key regional issues, including the Palestinian question.

Abdel Aaty stressed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in ensuring the implementation of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement and the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.

He emphasised the importance of consolidating the ceasefire, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid, launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts, and ensuring robust international participation in the conference Egypt is set to host on this matter.

Minister Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the unity of Palestinian territory—including the West Bank and Gaza—and rejected any measures that would entrench separation between them or undermine the two-state solution, which envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also briefed his Cypriot counterpart on developments in Sudan, reiterating Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s security, stability, unity and sovereignty.

He outlined Cairo’s efforts within the Quad Mechanism to secure ceasefire and pave the way for an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity and stability.

He further stressed the need for regional and international efforts to ensure safe corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people and to support Sudan’s national institutions.
