A joint meeting was held on Tuesday between Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, and Bahaa El-Ghannam, Executive Director of the Future Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development. The session took place at the authority’s headquarters to enhance coordination among key stakeholders in Egypt’s “food security triangle” of production, distribution, and strategic stock management.
Discussions focused on boosting agricultural output, improving supply chain efficiency, and strengthening Egypt’s strategic reserves of essential commodities. The ministers reviewed plans for wheat procurement from local farmers to stabilize the domestic market and ensure sustainable availability of staple goods.
The meeting also addressed mechanisms to develop the commodity exchange, aiming to improve transparency in pricing, curb monopolistic practices, and stabilize markets. Officials emphasized supporting small producers and farmers by providing fair and organized marketing channels. Regular price bulletins from the exchange will help deliver accurate data on fair market values, raising consumer awareness and reinforcing confidence in the system.
