Egypt condemned yesterday what it described as the ‘heinous’ suicide attack that was carried out in Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Tuesday.

The attack left several people dead and injured.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condoled with the families of the dead victims of the attack, as well as with the Somali people and government.

It also wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

“Egypt reiterates its support to Somalia in the face of all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism,” the Foreign Ministry said in the statement.

Five people were reported dead and ten others injured in the attack that targeted a tea shop near a military base in Mogadishu.

The al-Qaeda-leaning Al-Shabaab movement claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Shabaab is active in most of Somalia, carrying out similar attacks that usually target security forces, army personnel and foreign nationals.

Nonetheless, ordinary Somalis are caught in the middle of most of these attacks.
