The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned recent attacks by Israeli settlers in several villages and towns in the northern West Bank.
A ministry statement on Sunday highlighted assaults in Silat al-Dhahr and Fanduqoumiya, south of Jenin, and Qaryut south of Nablus, carried out under protection of Israeli forces.
The ministry termed such actions as a clear violation of international law, and stressed the need to hold perpetrators accountable.
The attacks also breach United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 and contradict the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of occupation practices, it said.
Egypt called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, protect Palestinian civilians, and ensure accountability for those responsible for such crimes.
Cairo also urged an end to escalation and a return to calm, paving the way for a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
