Egypt has strongly condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque area by Israeli settlers under police protection and the raising of the Israeli flag within its courtyards, describing the act as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as an unacceptable provocation to the feelings of Muslims worldwide.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt said the move represents a dangerous escalation that could inflame tensions and undermine efforts aimed at de-escalation and restoring stability.
Egypt reaffirmed its complete rejection of any attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, stressing the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in halting repeated Israeli violations and putting an end to practices that heighten tensions and weaken prospects for calm.
The statement also reiterated Egypt’s firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as part of achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause.
