Egypt condemned, in the strongest terms, the targeting of Khartoum International Airport with drones, as “a flagrant violation of Sudan’s sovereignty, a threat to civilian infrastructure, and a blow to the resources of the Sudanese people”.
Cairo has also warned that the attack constitutes a dangerous escalation that could complicate the security and humanitarian situation and hinder ongoing efforts to reach a humanitarian truce, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday
Egypt also voiced deep concern over the rising pace of attacks reportedly launched from the territory of a neighbouring country.
This “could widen the scope of the conflict and extend its repercussions across the region, undermining intensive efforts- led by the US within the international quartet- to secure a humanitarian ceasefire paving the way for a comprehensive political process under full Sudanese ownership and without external interference,” the statement warned.
Reaffirming its long-standing position, Egypt rejected “all forms of foreign intervention in Sudan’s internal affairs,’ and stressed the need to respect the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as adherence to good neighbourly principles in line with international law and the UN Charter.
In addition, Cairo reiterated support for all regional and international efforts aimed at containing the crisis and preserving the resources of the Sudanese people.
It also affirmed continued engagement with partners to “de-escalate tensions and prioritise peaceful solutions that meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability”.
