Sisi addresses special dialogue session at WEF in Davos
Cairo to maintain economic reform, advance development trajectory
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi participated in a special dialogue session held as part of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday. The session was attended by a number of heads of state and senior international officials.
The Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy stated that President of the World Economic Forum Børge Brende praised the long-standing cooperation between the Egyptian government and the Forum’s management over the past years.
He announced that the session was dedicated to exploring business opportunities in Egypt, reflecting the Forum’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s efforts to attract investment.
President El Sisi said that “the World Economic Forum provides us with a valuable opportunity to discuss international issues and current challenges in pursuit of our shared goal of building a more prosperous and just future for all.”
“Our world today faces serious challenges to development path. We are witnessing profound transformations in patterns of international cooperation, alongside the growing role of innovative tools based on technological progress, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence applications. These challenges necessitate concerted efforts to join forces and strengthen joint cooperation and action, empowering us not only to keep pace with these transformations but also harness their potential for the greater good of all our peoples. Guided by this spirit of cooperation, Egypt remains committed to building solid and enduring regional and international partnerships that deliver mutual growth and drive sustainable development,” the President added.
“Egypt is also moving forward in creating an attractive business environment for the private sector, which we consider a key partner in our journey towards development, progress, and prosperity.”
However, the President noted that these efforts face unprecedented challenges at both the regional and international levels. Escalating geopolitical conflicts and the defiance of the foundations of international legitimacy by some parties are undermining our drive for economic growth, weakening efforts to maintain international peace and security and limiting opportunities for joint action among the nations, the President added.
Accordingly, President El-Sisi stressed that the only path to achieving sustainable peace, stability, and development requires adherence to several key principles. First, adherence to dialogue and international cooperation, and promoting mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and respect for international law and the United Nations Charter.
Second, commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes, avoiding escalation, and creating conditions conducive to sustainable solutions to various crises. Third, striving to foster integration and cooperation among states, while prioritising the eradication of poverty and hunger and achieving shared prosperity for all peoples. Fourth, strengthening the role of national, regional, and international business institutions and empowering the private sector to play a central role in achieving comprehensive development.
The President affirmed that the Palestinian cause remains at the forefront of priorities in the Middle East, as it represents the core of regional stability and a fundamental pillar for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
In this context, President Sisi expressed appreciation for the efforts of US President Donald Trump and his commitment to ending the war in the Gaza Strip, as well as his efforts to alleviate the human suffering that has weighed heavily on the brotherly Palestinian people for more than two years.
The convening of the ‘Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit’ on October 13, 2025, was the crowning achievement of Egypt’s tireless efforts, in coordination with its partners, to secure a ceasefire, solidify the foundations of peace, and open up new prospects that hold hope for regional stability. It further aimed to launch a meaningful political trajectory for a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause, one that secures the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and enhances opportunities for security and development throughout the entire region.
From this perspective, I underscore the vital necessity of building upon the gains of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, stabilizing the ceasefire, and ensuring the unfettered flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, while moving urgently to launch the early recovery and reconstruction process across all areas of the Strip.
Furthermore, I welcome the US announcement regarding the commencement of the second phase of the agreement to end the war, viewing it as a crucial step toward implementing the peace plan and de-escalating tensions in the region, thereby reinforcing stability and opening new horizons for international cooperation.
I wish to reaffirm that Egypt, guided by its deep-rooted historical role in supporting the Palestinian cause, will spare no effort in continuing its engagement with all concerned parties. We remain dedicated to a just, comprehensive, and enduring solution to this issue based on the two-state solution and the resolutions of international legitimacy, envisaging the establishment of an independent Palestinian State along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Despite multiple regional and international crises, the President noted that Egypt has continued to implement its ambitious economic reform programme through an integrated package of measures aimed at restoring fiscal and monetary discipline, and rebuilding investor confidence in the Egyptian market.
“Egypt has placed special priority on strengthening the role of the private sector as an indispensable partner in achieving economic growth, setting a ceiling on public investment and launching a carefully designed plan for the state’s exit from certain public investments to create greater space for private-sector participation,” the President said.
These efforts, he added, have resulted in a tangible improvement in economic performance indicators, higher growth rates, increased private investment inflows, broad praise from international financial institutions and upgrades to Egypt’s credit rating by global rating agencies.
“The Egyptian market today represents a landscape rich with investment opportunities across multiple sectors. The state is keen to provide the necessary facilities and incentives, particularly in new and renewable energy, the automotive industry as well as pharmaceuticals, logistics, and ICT,” the President said.
The President, eventually, affirmed that Egypt will continue to play an active role in consolidating the foundations of security and stability at both the regional and international levels, while pressing ahead with efforts to achieve development and economic growth.
