Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Egypt commends distinguished ties with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), especially in light of its important role in the country’s development process over the past years.
The president added that Egypt looks forward to exploring further prospects of co-operation with the AIIB in the fields of transport, clean energy and transition to green economy.
Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting on Monday with AIIB President Jin Liqun, on the sidelines of the eighth annual meeting of the bank’s board of governors in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.
Jin thanked Egypt for the successful hosting of the annual meeting of the bank’s board of governors for the first time in Africa.
AIIB president said the bank is proud of close co-operation with Egypt and its different financial institutions, lauding the country’s efforts to achieve the comprehensive economic and social development.
The AIIB is keen on increasing its investment portfolio in Egypt, especially with regard to funding infrastructure projects in different sectors, said Jin.
The meeting took up the ongoing endeavors to reform the international finance system and the role of multilateral development banks in enhancing the ability of developing countries to face the global economic challenges.
