Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathi said on Thursday Egypt and China will sign two agreements for enhancing cooperation in the tourism and antiquities domains, underlining the importance of preparing an action plan to put them into effect as soon as possible.

Fathi made the remarks during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Hu Heping during his official visit to China.

He reiterated the Egyptian and Chinese leaders’ keenness on boosting bilateral relations and laying down foundations for long-term strategic relations.

He underlined the need to work together to raise the awareness of both Egyptian and Chinese peoples on the culture of each other, saying it is important that the Egyptian people would know more about habits and traditions of the Chinese people.

He referred to the diversity of Egyptian tourist products, citing cultural, beach and cruise tourism.

Cooperation is under way with a Chinese company specialized in the construction and operation of cruise liners to mull available investment opportunities and the possibility of setting up floating hotels.

He invited the Chinese official to visit Egypt as soon as possible to enjoy its variable archaeological and tourism features.

Hu, on his part, said there are vast opportunities for cooperation between Egypt and China who are linked by deeply-rooted relations.

He underlined the importance of developing cooperation in the tourism and antiquities domains, saying the Chinese are eager to know more about the Egyptian civilization and history.

He referred to the success of “On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt” exhibition, now being held at the Shanghai National Museum in China, saying it drew an unprecedented number of visitors.

He suggested exchanging visits between officials of the two countries, holding meetings periodically, joining hands in projects in archaeological domain and engaging in activities organized by each country.
