CAIRO – Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk and Chad’s Minister of Livestock Abderahim Awad Atteib discussed on Sunday ways to strengthen cooperation in the livestock domain.
The talks took place on the sidelines of the joint ministerial committee meetings, currently in session in Cairo under the co-chairmanship of the foreign ministers of both countries.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed opportunities for expanding cooperation in the livestock sector, given Chad’s large cattle population.
They discussed ways of benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in improving livestock breeds and selecting suitable fodders to boost meat and dairy production.
Both ministers stressed the need to activate the role of the private sector and agreed to consider holding a broad meeting bringing together investors from both countries to explore opportunities in animal production, including fodder manufacturing.
They also discussed the possibility of establishing an Egyptian laboratory in Chad for producing veterinary vaccines to meet national and regional needs and transfer Egyptian know-how in this strategic field.
The two sides agreed to arrange technical visits to put previously signed memoranda of understanding into effect and work to expand trade in agricultural and livestock products.
Farouk said the cooperation reflects President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s strong interest and ongoing directives to strengthen ties with Chad and other African nations and to provide the technical and logistical support needed to achieve sustainable development and food security.
Chad’s livestock minister expressed gratitude for Egypt’s support, describing Egypt as a strategic partner and key pillar whose extensive expertise can help advance and develop the livestock sector.
