Egypt’s Ambassador in Vienna Mohamed al-Molla has reiterated Egypt’s call to free the Middle East region from nuclear weapons, urging Israel to commit to international obligations in this regard.
In statements to MENA in Vienna, the ambassador expressed his happiness over the increase in the number of countries supporting Egypt, the Arab group and the non-aligned states this year within the meetings of the 65th General Conference of the IAEA, and the decrease in the number of countries opposing or abstaining the vote compared to the past years.
He asserted the need of Israel’s responding to the guarantees of the IAEA, allowing international inspection of its nuclear facilities, and halting escalation and nuclear armament in the region.
The Arab group and the non-aligned member states in the IAEA on Thursday launched an initiative to stop nuclear armament in the Middle East and enforce the agency’s standards on all countries without exception, which was approved by the majority.
