CAIRO – Speaker of the Egyptian Senate Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq said Saturday that Egypt has boosted the local vaccine and drug industry with an aim of exporting to African and Arab countries to combat the coronavirus.
Abdel Razeq made the remarks during a speech he delivered at the closing session of the conference of the Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World, currently held in Morocco.
The Egyptian Senate started its work since 2020 in parallel with the country’s House of Representatives, he said.
He took up three issues put on the forum’s agenda, including Arab and African solidarity amid the coronavirus.
Tackling the second issue, Abdel Razeq said Egypt has always been proactive in joining all UN agreements that are related to women’s rights, launching deals, protocols and national laws to counter violence against women and eliminate all forms of discrimination against them.
The Senate speaker said the third issue on the forum’s agenda is tackling the importance of the climate and health justice.
On that score, he hailed naming Egypt to host 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27).
At the end, Abdel Razeq asserted the importance of exchanging views and intensify efforts among the association’s parliaments to achieve the aspirations of their peoples.
In its final communiqué, the forum hailed Egypt’s hosting of COP 27.
