CAIRO – Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam discussed with Bahraini Minister of Works Ebrahim Bin Hasan Al Hawaj ways to enhance future co-operation between Egypt and Bahrain in the field of water resources.

Sewilam emphasised Egypt’s keenness to strengthen co-operation with Bahrain and other Arab countries through exchanging ideas and learning from successful experiences in various countries, which would improve water management in the Arab region.

He presented the ministry’s vision for developing its work mechanism, especially using modern technology and digital transformation to facilitate the management and monitoring of the water system, expanding water treatment and reuse, and moving towards desalination for intensive food production as one of the future solutions to confront water and food challenges.

The Bahraini minister asserted that the water challenges facing both Egypt and Bahrain are similar, underlining the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries to improve water management and effectively address water scarcity faced by both.

The two ministers agreed to bolster cooperation in water treatment, share Egyptian expertise in this field, cooperate in desalination for intensive food production as a tool to face water and food challenges in the Arab world.

They also agreed to collaborate in utilising modern technology, such as artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and mathematical models in water management.

They also stressed the importance of cooperation in training and capacity building for workers in fields of mutual interest.
