Cairo has welcomed the European Commission’s recent announcement of a Multiannual Comprehensive Support Programme aimed at bolstering the financial recovery and resilience of the Palestinian territories. Valued at €1.6 billion, the initiative underscores the European Union’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian Authority and strengthening institutional capacity across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates praised the EU’s decision, describing it as a timely and significant step that acknowledges the urgent needs of the Palestinian people. The Ministry emphasized that the support contributes not only to meeting basic needs but also to advancing the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians and furthering efforts toward a just and sustainable resolution of the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution.
Egypt also welcomed the EU’s allocation of €82 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), citing the agency’s critical role in delivering essential services and humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees across the region.
The Ministry expressed hope that the EU will maintain its steadfast support for the Palestinian Authority and engage constructively in the upcoming Gaza Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference, which Egypt is set to host in partnership with the United Nations and the Palestinian government.
