DUBAI – Egyptian Planning Minister Hala el Saeed asserted on Tuesday that the Egyptian government applied several social protection programs in light of the economic global crises and the hike of commodity prices.

This came during a session held under the theme of “future governments. Ambition and vision in Dubai”.

Saeed said that the government increased the minimum wage rate at the level of the government, the private sector and the pensions and increased the social protection bundles.

She said that the government launched the biggest developmental program in the world “Decent Life” which targets the services presented to the citizens in the Egyptian villages.

For the first time, the Egyptian state directs all its investments to more than 58% of the citizens in Egypt, she said.

On the global crises and their impact on the world, she said that it is important to work on short-term plans in addition to medium-term and long-term plans.
Minister Saeed said government started rationalizing expenditure on the infrastructure and directed the investments to the sectors of health, education and communication, asserting that the government during coronavirus crisis increased its investments by 400% in the field of communication and information technology in addition to investing in the human elements.

On Egypt’s vision 2063, Saeed said that the vision reflects the vision of the Egyptians including the private sector, intellectuals, civil society and university professors, adding that it has dimensions on economy, social protection and maintaining the resources.

Egypt is facing a population crisis as its population increases by 2.5 million citizens yearly which is a burden on the development operation, she said.
Saeed said that Egypt is working on improving the conditions of investing in the human element.

Investing in the human element is done by providing good educational and health services to the people, she said.

The Egyptian state also handled the issue of water scarcity via putting short-term and medium-term plans via investing in projects for maintaining water and rationalizing its use, she said.
