CAIRO – The first session of the Egypt-Angola Joint Committee was held in Luanda, co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, and his Angolan counterpart Téte António.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to elevating bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership, highlighting the momentum generated by high-level visits, including the Angolan President’s visit to Cairo in April.
He stressed the need to strengthen economic cooperation and develop public-private sector partnerships.
Both sides discussed measures to support Egyptian companies operating in Angola, including Arab Contractors, Elsewedy Electric, and Petrojet, and explored opportunities for new investments in urban planning, energy efficiency, infrastructure, tourism, petrochemicals, and fertilizers.
The meeting also addressed enhancing institutional cooperation between the Egyptian General Authority for Investment (GAFI) and the Angolan Investment Agency, and the potential establishment of a joint business council.
The discussions also covered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support Angola’s healthcare sector and share Egyptian expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing and health services.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s interest in participating in Angola’s national development plans, particularly the Lobito Corridor, a key strategic artery for trade and logistics in Africa, and its surrounding logistical zones.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, including capacity-building programs and collaboration in the defense industry, while continuing consultations on priority African issues.
The meeting concluded with the signing of several MoUs covering health, pharmaceuticals, civil aviation services, and communications and information technology.
