Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom announced that total public investments allocated to North and South Sinai governorates reach roughly LE35 billion during the fiscal years 2025/2026 and 2026/2027.
In a press statement issued on the occasion of Egypt’s 44th anniversary of Sinai Liberation on Saturday, the minister affirmed that the country’s development drive continues to accelerate, underscoring the geographic, historical, and strategic significance of the Sinai Peninsula.
Rostom revealed that the investment plan allocates around LE25 billion to North Sinai over the current and upcoming fiscal years, while South Sinai is set to receive about LE10 billion.
He stressed Sinai’s exceptional place in the hearts of Egyptians, noting that its land was safeguarded through the sacrifices of martyrs. He added that the nation’s ongoing development efforts represent a continuation of that legacy through intensified construction and growth initiatives.
The minister stressed the government’s commitment to expanding comprehensive development and increasing investment in human capital, describing development as the true safeguard for preserving the nation’s land.
He noted that 59% of total investments are directed toward human development, while 41% are allocated to infrastructure projects.
Rostom also highlighted the government’s efforts to boost Sinai’s position as a key development hub, pointing to the comprehensive upgrade of Arish seaport and the establishment of numerous integrated urban and development communities.
In the health sector, the minister outlined significant advancements in hospitals and primary healthcare units, including New Rafah Hospital and the development of Arish General Hospital, Sheikh Zuweid Hospital, Baghdad Hospital, and Bir El-Abd Hospital.
The electricity sector has also been reinforced through the establishment of transformer stations such as Al-Masa’id and Baghdad.
The government has further injected substantial investments into road networks and transport infrastructure to facilitate movement for citizens, improve goods transportation, and support tourism activity.
Minister Rostom highlighted major progress in water resource development through the implementation of strategic desalination projects, including a desalination plant in Arish, five plants in South Sinai, and two additional facilities in the new cities of Rafah and Bir El-Abd.
He added that the state has expanded tertiary wastewater treatment projects to maximise water reuse and increase agricultural land, notably the Bahr El-Baqar drainage water treatment system and the Al-Mahsama plant.
The minister also reaffirmed ongoing efforts to maintain Sharm El-Sheikh’s status as a global tourist destination and to further establish it as a “green city” aligned with environmental standards.
