Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Co-operation Rania Al-Mashat arrived in the Albanian capital, Tirana, to chair the inaugural session of the Egyptian–Albanian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Co-operation. This marks the first meeting of the Committee since 1993.
Al-Mashat emphasised that the Egyptian–Albanian Joint Committee aims to explore avenues of co-operation between the two countries and strengthen bilateral relations, opening broader prospects for partnerships—particularly in trade exchange, economic co-operation, and joint investments. She added that the Committee’s session will also include a joint business forum bringing together private-sector representatives to discuss investment opportunities in areas of mutual interest.
Over the past two days, Minister Al-Mashat presided over preparatory expert-level meetings, with participation from representatives of the Ministries of Investment and Foreign Trade, Electricity and Renewable Energy, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Agriculture, Civil Aviation, Labour, Supply, and the Public Business Sector.
The meetings also included representatives from the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority, the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation, as well as major companies operating in infrastructure, real estate development, tourism, and other sectors. Representatives of Albanian ministries and institutions also took part in these preparatory discussions.
The Ministry of Planning continues to advance Egypt’s program to strengthen economic relations with multilateral and bilateral development partners. The Ministry oversees 54 joint committees between Egypt and other countries, including 30 with European nations.
These committees serve as key mechanisms for enhancing Egypt’s economic relations at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
