The Ministers of Electricity, Communications, and Investment held a major meeting in the New Capital to advance preparations for Egypt’s national strategy on data centres.
The initiative, mandated by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, aims to localize the industry, rely on renewable energy, and attract global technology investments, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy Thursday.
During the meeting, Electricity Minister Mahmoud Essmat outlined a plan to support the establishment of data centres, stressing Egypt’s energy strategy to raise renewables to 45 per cent of the power mix within two years. He confirmed readiness to secure long-term agreements with investors to meet energy needs.
For his part, Communications Minister Raafat Hindi described data centres as a cornerstone of Egypt’s digital sovereignty and highlighted their role in expanding global digital service exports.
He also pointed to Egypt’s competitive advantages, including its extensive submarine cable network and strategic geographic location.
Investment Minister Mohamed Farid emphasised the importance of integrated information on proposed sites, infrastructure readiness, and investment incentives to attract leading global firms. He confirmed that Egypt’s trade offices abroad and the General Authority for Investment will lead international promotion campaigns.
It was agreed during to draft an investment map detailing proposed sites, infrastructure, incentives, and competitive advantages, to be shared with global technology companies.
A joint task force from the three ministries will finalise the national strategy, coordinate with trade offices, and ensure rapid responses to investor inquiries.
