CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa asserted that the ministry has spent EGP 9 billion for renewing and renovating around 9,000 mosques nationwide.
In statements to MENA, Gomaa said the Ministry has paid more than 2.1 billion in the service of the society and charity including EGP 200 million in the education field and building schools.
He also pointed out that the Awqaf Authority has achieved around EGP 2 billion in revenues and profits for the first time since its establishment.
The Awqaf Authority also has established 16,791 housing units with a total cost of EGP 2 billion, he added.
In the field of missions and conferences, the Ministry has sent 1,684 imams and preachers along with organizing 7 international competitions to enhance Egypt’s role in the field of enlightenment and to upgrade moderate speech, he said.
The ministry has also inaugurated the biggest international center for training imams and female preachers along with giving training for various awqaf officials in the fields of psychology, religious sciences, computer programmes and foreign languages, the minister added.
As regards the healthcare, the minister said the Ministry has paid more than EGP 145 million in the field of healthcare and development of Al Doaa Hospital along with the distribution of meat on more than 5 million families of the most needy people.
