The Egyptian Food Bank (EFB), in collaboration with around 4,000 NGOs registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, is reinforcing its commitment to food security for Egypt’s most vulnerable populations during the holy month of Ramadan.
This partnership helps reaching approximately 700,000 families and impact 4 million individuals, particularly those from underprivileged communities across the country throughout the month.
The bank’s Ramadan initiatives are designed to provide nutritious food to those in need, with a focus on remote and underserved areas.
The organisation’s programmes include distributing Iftar and Suhoor meals through initiatives such as the “A Share in an Iftar Tent” programme, the “Iftar Meal” initiative, and setting up charity Iftar tables. These efforts are meant to ensure that no one in need goes without food during the holy month.
Additionally, the bank also distributes monthly food packages through its “Ramadan Happiness Box” initiative.
Volunteers play an essential role in these initiatives, ensuring their smooth implementation and broad impact.
Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, emphasised the importance of the vast network of community-based organisations (CBOs) the bank works with.
“Our strength lies in the deep relationships we’ve built with around 4,000 CBOs across Egypt. These partnerships allow us to maximise the use of available resources and ensure food aid reaches the most vulnerable communities effectively and efficiently,” Sarhan said.
“We carefully select CBOs based on their administrative competence, financial stability, logistical capabilities, and their strong ties to local communities, which enhance the success of our programmes,” Sarhan noted.
The partnership with CBOs spans across various Egyptian governorates, including North and South Sinai, Upper Egypt, Marsa Matrouh, and the New Valley, he also said.
Additionally, the EFB is working with the Ministry of Transport on the “Iftar at the Station” initiative. This programme is set to distribute 100,000 “Iftar Saeem” packs during Ramadan, with 3,500 packs being distributed daily at major metro stations.
