The Education and Scientific Research Committee at the National Dialogue yesterday discussed a bill submitted by the Cabinet on the creation of a Supreme National Council for Education.
National Dialogue Coordinator Diaa Rashwan told The Egyptian Gazette that everyone has the right to review all ideas mentioned in the bill that is currently under discussion.
“This education council will set strategies to improve pre-university education and scientific research,” Rashwan added.
The council would follow up implementation of these strategies and periodically assess and update curricula according to international standards.
The political leadership attaches great importance to education which is the gateway to the New Republic, Rashwan said.
Rashwan also spoke of the paramount importance of the role played by teachers who are the main force for transforming education and linking it to the requirements of the labour market.
Rashwan also highlighted the importance of developing education in boosting intercultural dialogue , tolerance and overcoming chaos and extremist ideas.
“It is necessary to support education reform and policy development through dedicated research and sustainable and impactful initiatives,” Rashwan said.
For her part, Deputy Chair of International Council for Adult Education Seham Negm told this paper that one-third of board members should be affiliated to the government, the second third to civil society, and the last is to various stakeholders.
“The council should have a strategic vision and medium and long-term policies to build the Egyptian personality and students,” she said, adding that the council would be an umbrella for all institutional structures,” she added.
