CAIRO – President of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) Mohamed Al-Orabi has voiced backing for the nomination of Khaled Anani for the post of UNESCO director-general.
Al-Orabi told MENA on Thursday that the council is set to prioritise this nomination on the ECFA’s agenda in all coming activities, visits and communications to support Anani.
He also lauded great experience and significant achievements of Anani with more than 30 years of teaching at universities and contributing to scientific research in Egypt and abroad.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli announced Wednesday that Anani would be nominated for the post of UNESCO director-general during the period between 2025 and 2029.
Madbouli underscored the importance of cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO, noting that Anani’s candidacy decision was made by the national committee in charge of setting criteria for choosing the best candidates.
The premier said Anani has made great and precious contributions to science, education and culture at both the national and international levels.
The elections for choosing new UNESCO director-general will be held in the Paris-based international organisation in 2025.
