EBRD launches action plan for turning 6th of Oct. into green city

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced the launch of the 6th of October City’s Green City Action Plan (GCAP) in collaboration with the Egyptian government to promote efforts for transition to green and sustainable economy in Egypt.

In a statement on Tuesday, the bank said the plan includes 14 projects backed by 17 long-term initiatives to turn 6th of October City into a pioneering Egyptian city backing sustainability, green future, digital transformation and comprehensive growth.

The statement noted that the bank provided a senior loan of up to 25 million euros for establishing the first in land dry port in Egypt in the city of 6th of October, west of Cairo, within the framework of the GCAP.

For her part, Minister of International Cooperation and Egypt’s Governor at EBRD Rania Mashat highlighted the deeply-rooted cooperation with EBRD in light of cooperation with the bank to implement the GCAP.

She added that this promotes international partnerships with Egypt in the field of transition to green economy.

Meanwhile, Heike Harmgart, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) of EBRD, said 6th of October City is the first city in Egypt whose greening action plan was launched, voicing hope for taking steps towards greening Cairo and Alexandria.
